Modified By Ink is a lifestyle tattoo show that focuses on addressing internal and external scarring from all types of traumas and tragedy. Episodes feature two guests with similar trauma and the stories behind the tattoo they receive on the episode. In addition to the tattoo stories, hosts work with a non-profit organization associated with the trauma or tragedy being explored to create a fundraiser to benefit their cause. The season will culminate is a large event celebrating tattoos and charities focusing on healing.

The 12-episode season will take viewers to 6 cities with 6 famous artists starting in Illinois and finalizing in Daytona Beach Florida. Traumas covered will include burn victims, cancer survivors, human trafficking, PTSD, domestic violence and surviving the streets.

Brandie Phillips

Brandie Phillips is a passionate advocate for the therapeutic potential of tattoos. As a public figure,   she champions tattoos' healing abilities through social media and podcasts, collaborating with numerous charities and organizations dedicated to healing.

Brandie's journey into production began with the creation of Ink Therapy in 2015. Her latest endeavor, Modified by Ink (2024), delves deeper into the themes of healing, exploring the diverse ways tattoos can aid in overcoming internal and external pain. Drawing from her own experiences and entrepreneurial spirit, Brandie is dedicated to developing projects focused on personal growth and wellness.

Cleen Rock One

Born James Steinke, Cleen Rock One is a near thirty year professional tattoo artist. He established his career by owning a shop in Illinois, later expanding his influence through guest spots and magazine features across the United States before opening his shop, Chrome Gypsy Tattoo, in Las Vegas. 

Cleen's journey reached new heights when he gained prominence on the Spike reality series "Ink Master" in 2014. His impressive performances earned him second place in Season 5 and again in a major upset during Season 7, finally achieving victory coaching a winning team in Season 11. Cleen has also served as a judge on multiple seasons, including Ink Master: Revenge and the spin-off series Ink Master: Grudge Match.

Cleen specializes in bold, bright, neo-traditional and new school tattoo designs. With a style influenced by his early background in graffiti and street art, he is known for creating depth through free-flowing designs and solid black shading. Cleen’s emphasis on clean lines demonstrate his technical precision while also accentuating the intricate patterns and varied details of his art.

Fernando Balladares

Tattoo 925

Fernando "El Famouso" Balladares has been a prominent figure in Concord, California's tattoo scene for over 30 years. Specializing in old-school black and gray tattooing, his work reflects Chicano and Bay Area culture. From his early days tattooing on the West Coast to co-owning Tattoo 925 in Martinez, CA, Fernando has consistently demonstrated his dedication to the craft. He has mentored numerous successful apprentices and is also the founder and president of Esse Skate Co., where his creativity influences their art, clothing, and skateboarding sponsorships. Fernando's passion for tattooing and skateboarding has earned him a dedicated following from LA to San Diego and beyond.

Jessica Berdiales

Jbert Art

Born and raised in Colorado, Jessica is a versatile artist who has explored various mediums, including painting, sewing, and music. With nine years of professional tattooing experience since beginning as an apprentice under Carlito Guerrero in2015, and having endured the loss of several loved ones to suicide, she feels a profound connection between her art and the process of healing from pain and grief. She divides her time between California and Colorado.

Aline and Alena Petunia, the dynamic twin duo, made waves in the tattoo scene after moving from Germany to LA in 2019. They established “Petunia Twins Ink,” a vibrant studio with a distinctive pink and black, female-focused theme. As owners of this thriving shop, they've become symbols of empowerment in the industry. Their unique abstract watercolor style has earned them spots as tattoo models and appearances on TV shows, solidifying their success in the City of Angels.

Bobby Guidotti

Main Street Tattoo Daytona

Bobby Guidotti, owner of Main Street Tattoo, is dedicated to community involvement. He supports various organizations, including Christian Surfers, Bikers Against Child Trafficking, and the Volusia County Thanksgiving Basket Brigade, among others. Bobby has also participated in fundraisers for St. Jude’s Hospital, the Daytona Beach Police Department, and the Jenna Teachman silent auction for pancreatic cancer treatment. Together with his team at Main Street Tattoo, he is committed to making a positive impact in the community.

Stephanie Berry-Pantera has overcome significant mental health challenges, including borderline personality disorder, OCD, anxiety, and depression. After surviving a suicide attempt at 19 and dealing with deep scarring, she turned to tattoos to reclaim her self-esteem. Now feeling restored and empowered, Stephanie has become a devoted mother, a globally recognized tattoo artist, a respected industry model, and the founder of her own fashion label. Her personal journey fuels her passion for helping others turn their scars into symbols of strength and beauty.

Episode 1: Healing Ink 

In this episode, Brandie Phillips travels to Kewanee, Illinois, to meet Cleen Rock One at his studio, Chrome Gypsy Compound. She shares her vision of using therapeutic tattooing to aid trauma victims and introduces Cleen to her event planner. The episode features the first two recipients of this healing ink: Jason Newell, who was wrongfully accused in a fatal car accident, and Erin Weaver, a burn survivor whose ex-boyfriend set their car on fire, leaving her with severe burns. Supported by the Burn Foundation, which aids burn survivors and advocates for fire safety in the Greater Philadelphia Area, these survivors receive tattoos that symbolize their journeys of resilience and recovery.

Episode 2: Ink and Impact 

In this episode, Cleen Rock One continues his journey of healing at Chrome Gypsy Compound in Kewanee, Illinois. Two new survivors visit the studio for transformative tattoos. Brian James, who created an animal-based recovery program for drug addicts, and Karlee Hawes, a dog attack survivor who now writes books about her experience, are both honored with tattoos that reflect their unique stories. Supported by Marley Mutts, a non-profit dedicated to rehabilitating animals and fostering second chances through the human-animal bond, this episode highlights the profound impact of these inked tributes on their lives.

 

Episode 3: Strings of Healing 

In this episode, Brandie Phillips and Cleen Rock One travel to Martinez, California, to collaborate with Fern at Tattoo 925. Their mission is to expand their cause of therapeutic tattooing to new heights. Fern and the team meet two veterans battling PTSD: Dustin Hayes, an Afghanistan veteran now working as a barista after a serious injury, and Peggy “Taylor” Fry-Ulom, an Air Force veteran sharing her journey with complex PTSD. Supported by Guitars 4 Vets, a non-profit providing guitars and music lessons to aid veterans with PTSD, this episode explores the powerful intersection of music and tattooing in the healing process. 

 

Episode 4: Inked for Hope

In this episode, Brandie Phillips and Cleen Rock One continue their journey with Fern at Tattoo 925 in Martinez, California, focusing on tattoo therapy for suicide survivors. Partnering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which works to understand and prevent suicide through research, education, and support, the team meets two courageous survivors. Danielle Cook, a mother who has transformed her life following a failed suicide attempt, and Wesley Blanchette, a tattoo artist coping with his girlfriend's suicide, both receive tattoos that symbolize their resilience and recovery. This episode delves into the healing power of ink as a tool for overcoming profound personal struggles.

Episode 5: Ink of Remembrance

In this episode, Brandie Phillips and Cleen Rock One travel to Glendale Colorado, to collaborate with Jessica Berdiales at Jbert Art. They explore the profound impact of tattoo therapy on those who have lost children. Partnering with the Local Heart Foundation, which supports families facing financial burdens due to heart disease, the team meets two survivors. Vanessa Grotewold, whose son was tragically thrown over a cliff in an accident and whose daughter passed away from muscular dystrophy, and Renzo Saenz, whose daughter died from rare heart conditions, receive tattoos that honor their lost loved ones. This episode highlights the therapeutic power of tattoos in helping individuals cope with unimaginable grief and loss.

Episode 6: Inked for Recovery

In this episode, Brandie Phillips continues her journey in Glendale Colorado, working with Jessica Berdiales at Jbert Art to support survivors of drug addiction. Partnering with Tarzana Treatment Centers, a leading organization offering comprehensive substance abuse and mental health treatment, the team meets two inspiring individuals. Matt “Mohawk” Commaran, a former methamphetamine and heroin addict now living a sober life, and Ashlee Amerian, a longtime IV drug user who has turned her life around to become a successful businesswoman, both receive tattoos that mark their journey of recovery. This episode showcases the powerful role of tattoos in celebrating personal triumphs and healing from addiction. 

 

Episode 7: Ink Against Silence

In this episode, Brandie and Cleen travel to Los Angeles to visit Petunia Twins Ink in Beverly Hills, where they collaborate with twin artists Aline and Alena Petunia. Partnering with Unsilenced Voices, a global nonprofit dedicated to empowering survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, the team works with two courageous individuals. Deborah Drummond, who survived a brutal attack when her partner pushed her off a cliff and she climbed back up with every rib broken, and Dan Roth, who endured emotional abuse and sexual assault before recognizing the trauma he experienced, both receive transformative tattoos, highlighting the profound healing power of tattoos in overcoming the silence and pain of domestic violence.

Episode 8: Scars Into Strength

In this episode, Brandie and Cleen continue their work with the Petunia Twins. Aline and Alena Petunia focus on transforming the scars of self-harm into artful armor. Partnering with Unsilenced Voices, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, the twins meet two resilient individuals. Kayliann Pineda, who began self-harming at a young age and now uses her experiences to advocate for others, and Latasha Hernandez, who once struggled with mental health and a chaotic life but has since become a mother and successful businesswoman, both receive tattoos that symbolize their healing journey, This episode highlights the empowering process of turning painful scars into symbols of strength and resilience.

Episode 9: Inked Resilience

In this episode, Brandie and Cleen travel to Daytona Beach, Florida, to collaborate with Bobby Guidotti at Main Street Tattoo Daytona. The focus is on helping two amputee survivors on their journey to healing. Partnering with 50 Legs, a nonprofit that provides prosthetic limbs to restore mobility and independence, Ryanne Carr, a double above-knee and one below-knee amputee and athlete born with Amniotic Band Syndrome. Additionally, 13-year-old Katie Eddington, who has undergone 22 surgeries after a lawn mowing accident, will have her prosthetic airbrushed during the episode, highlighting the  power of tattoos in supporting recovery and celebrating resilience.

Episode 10: Ink of Redemption

In this episode, Brandie Phillips and Cleen Rock One continue their journey in Florida's panhandle, focusing on individuals who have transformed their lives after facing profound challenges. Working with Bobby Guidotti at Main Street Tattoo Daytona, they partner with Homeboy Industries, which supports high-risk individuals and formerly incarcerated people through job training and services, and Project Wishope, which aids Wisconsin's recovery community with resources and support. The team meets Mike Wallace, who found redemption through MMA, music, and family, and Justine Leavitt, who, after receiving mercy and attending drug court, now leads an addiction support group. This episode highlights the power of tattoos in marking significant life changes and celebrating personal triumphs.

Episode 11: Ink of Freedom

In the season finale, Brandie Phillips and Cleen Rock One travel to Daytona Beach, Florida, for their final stop at Main Street Tattoo, where they team up with artist Stephanie Berry-Pantera. The episode focuses on two survivors of human trafficking, supported by Angels of Mercy, which helps displaced women become self-sufficient, and OUR Rescue (formerly Operation Underground Railroad), which aids in global rescue efforts and survivor care. Stephanie works with Heather Raincrow, who was exploited and addicted but is now on the path to sobriety. The episode concludes with a major event celebrating their journey and the transformative power of tattooing in marking new beginnings and personal freedom.

Episode 12: Inked in Hope

In this episode, Brandie Phillips and Cleen Rock One gear up for a monumental event in Daytona Beach, Florida, at Main Street Tattoo with Stephanie Berry-Pantera. The team focuses on supporting two breast cancer survivors, assisted by LiveStrong, a nonprofit dedicated to providing resources and support for cancer patients. Becky Robles, who honors her Green Beret father with a tattoo he designed, and Isabel Marie, who discovered her cancer during an emergency C-section, both receive meaningful tattoos. The episode builds up to a grand finale featuring a concert and a special guest performer, celebrating the resilience and strength of these survivors.
